What if you are giving a talk or a presentation… and something goes wrong?
What do you do? PANIC?!
Hi, I’m Bryan Toder, The No Fear Guy… and if you are giving a talk or presentation and something goes wrong, you do this one thing:
You change the ending!
I was just coaching a speaker today who had this question and what I said to her was, “Your audience doesn’t know what you are going to say, right? So, if something goes wrong… like you forget a line or can’t remember a name…
…so what? Keep going. Why?
Because your audience doesn’t know what you were going to say, so they really don’t know if you messed up!”
Does that make sense?
What a lot of people do, instead, is they basically tell the audience they screwed it up!
“Oh, I forgot the guy’s name… what is it…?” etc.. instead of saying, “There’s a famous quote from an inventor that said…” or “An author once wrote…”
I can guarantee no one in the audience is thinking, “Hey! He forgot that guy’s name!’ or “Hey! He forgot a line there!”
So, if you mess up, just keep going! And. like the saying goes from a famous announcer, “Don’t let them see you sweat!”
